Amarigarita

Yes, adding amaro is almost always the answer to the question. I love riffing on sidecar/margarita template, and it turns out amari fit in really nicely to the liqueur “slot”— so here, instead of triple sec, I bring in two citrus-forward amari.

For the tequila, I’m featuring @agavalestequila reposado, which works great here. It’s a very balanced reposado, with notes of vanilla and grassy agave and hints of citrus, so it leans into the amari without overpowering it with vanilla/oak. The drink definitely delivers like a margarita but the citrus (orange > grapefruit) comes through more, and there’s a lovely bittersweet finish with just the faintest hint of floral.

Recipe

Rim double OF glass with mix of pink salt & dehydrated orange peel. Shake remaining ingredients with ice until chilled. Fine strain over cubed #clearice and garnish with dehydrated lime and grapefruit peels.

Does anyone else have a good margarita recipe with amaro in it?? Cheers!!
