Berry Versatile

It’s officially the Summer of Strawberry. For one, little kids go through more fruit than several grown men, and currently we’re on a strawberry kick in our house. This inevitably means the occasional batch of strawberries about to go bad, which is actually the best kind for syrups and the like. To that end, I made a strawberry rhubarb ginger shrub that is amazing (full recipe on my website, link in bio) and good in everything I’ve tried it in so far.

This drink is a somewhat eclectic cast of characters— vegetal/spicy poblano, savory celery, fruity/juicy shrub— but they all come together beautifully against the backdrop of a very delicious gin, kindly sent by @old_harbor. It’s closer to a classic London Dry than many modern gins, and has a soft richness I think comes from the corn base, which is a unique and welcome twist. There are a lot of big flavors here, but they really harmonize nicely to create a great summertime sip.

Recipe

Shake, fine strain, garnish with fresh strawberry and poblano. Cheers!!
