Cosmic Harmony
I know flavored vodkas often get a bad rep, but like with any spirit, there is a wide spectrum of quality out there. I want a vodka that is still clean and not overly sweet, with authentic flavor representation. The lychee, coconut, and jasmine vodka that the folks at @chakravodkas kindly sent me fits that order nicely. It has a ton of depth and the three flavors represented are in perfect harmony.
My first cocktail with it is a loose gimlet riff, splitting the vodka with a bit of a floral-forward gin for some botanical depth. The floral notes are boosted further with the Bitter Bianco as well as an oleo saccharum made with pomelo peels, which smells like grapefruit had a lovechild with a flower. (The juice is really boring though… is it just me?). There are enough counter flavors here that the floral piece is balanced with an abundance of citrus and tropical notes. It’s a really nice sip!!
Recipe
1.5oz Coconut, lychee, jasmine vodka (@chakravodkas, gifted)
0.5oz Modern style/floral forward gin (@drinkavonak)
0.5oz Bitter Bianco (@luxardousa)
0.5oz “Pomeloleo” (equal parts pomelo peel + cane sugar, muddle & refrigerate overnight, collect sugar and add ~equal weight water)
0.75oz Lime juice
Shake, strain over ice (or up), garnish with a dried pomelo rose. Cheers!!
