Flippin’ Nuts
December is here, the Christmas tree is up, and I can wear a jacket in Texas most days without feeling hot. Sounds like as good of time as any to begin Flip Season. Believe it or not, this is actually My First Flip post. If you are like I was and have…reservations about a full egg in your cocktail, well, let’s just say that waiting this long is on my list of regrets. Do yourself a solid and try one!
This particular flip was inspired by a whiskey-based praline cream liqueur gifted to me by @selectclubwhisky. It reminds me of a delicious, nutty cousin of Bailey’s. In this flip, it replaces the cream element; the backbone is whiskey; the nutty elements are amplified with beautifully with some sherry; and the holiday spice vibes are dialed in with some spiced rum. I find flip recipes often read sweet, and while this tastes like the most glorious boozy milkshake, it’s not overly sweet.
Recipe
0.75oz Bourbon (@elijahcraig)
1oz Praline cream liqueur (@selectclubwhisky, gifted)
1oz PX sherry (@bodegaslustau)
0.5oz spiced rum (@foursquarerumusa)
1 whole egg
Combine all ingredients, dry shake, wet shake, strain. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg + pecans previously soaked in bourbon. Cheers!!
