Great Rinds Think Alike
I love the Drinkstagram community— among many things, it’s a great place for inspiration. My talented, creative, and hilarious buddy @highalcoholcontent recently posted a super cool drink with clarified watermelon vodka and fino sherry. That combination makes so much sense and sounds amazing, so I had to try it. I don’t have a centrifuge (or an awesome Dremel-fuge equivalent), so instead I made a low-ABV hack.
For the base, I used a great melon liqueur (that is more honeydew than watermelon) and fino sherry, with a bit of mezcal for proof and complexity. Melon and mint are a great combo so I used this for some added sweetness and highlighted the fino savoriness with some savory bitters.
This is a low ABV banger. The melon-fino combo is SO good and with a bit of mint and a slightly savory leaning, it’s refreshing, complex, and absolutely crushable.
Recipe
1oz melon liqueur (@distillerieduquai, gifted)
1oz fino sherry (@tiopepewines)
0.5oz clarified lime juice
0.5oz mezcal (@mezcalverde, gifted)
0.5oz chocolate mint syrup (see post 4/10/23)
1 dash savory bitters (@bluestembotanicals, gifted)
3oz soda
Add ingredients (minus soda) to a highball glass. Add ice spear and stir briefly until chilled. Top with soda water and stir briefly to incorporate. No garnish here. Cheers!!
