U Make Me Purple
I won’t lie, I absolutely love the color of this drink. The gorgeous purple mostly comes from the primary ingredient, a delicious plum liqueur. What’s interesting about this spirit is that it’s not especially sweet, and even has a delicious tart edge to it. This means we can use larger quantities and also create enjoyable lower ABV cocktails (it’s 17%).
From The Ground Up
Happy Earth Day everyone! To celebrate, I am continuing this week’s trend of Making Things Complicated with more layers, a homemade tincture (using otherwise discarded fennel fronds), and citrus peels that were going bad (garnish). The drink is shot in my garden and if you have the space, I highly encourage you to plant something if you don’t already.
Green With Envy
Happy Valentine’s Day! I’m sure your feed is filled with Red, Cliches, and references to fat, matchmaking little angels. This post goes out to anyone not feeling all the Love…or maybe even feeling a bit jealous of all the warm fuzzies Hallmark would make you believe you should be feeling. [Full disclosure: I am a Big Softie and I happily married to my forever Valentine🥰].
Lost Key
In all honesty, absinthe is pretty new to me. Anise has been a flavor that has taken me some time to grow on me, but I am finally at a place where I enjoy the flavor in the right context. Needless to say, I was really excited when @absinthe_absente offered to send me a bottle!! After I enjoyed it on ice (I need to get an absinthe spoon…), I was determined to make a cocktail using more than just a rinse.
