Cafecito Cocalero
(#ad)
Today’s post is featuring a new spirit for me— Cocalero Negro, a delicious South American-inspired liqueur. It is herbaceous, peppery, spiced, with slight floral and citrus notes with a touch of heat on the back-end without being overtly spicy. It has 29% ABV, so it holds up well in a cocktail, and while there's some sweetness, the bontaical profile reads almost like a light amaro to me. Needless to say, it's a versatile spirit.
The first thought I had after tasting it was how well it would pair with coffee. I wanted to keep a simple build, something refreshing and nice for a summer afternoon, so I went with the classic combo of coffee + tonic. To be honest, I haven’t had this combo before but the result was delicious: dark and earthy, plenty of coffee flavor, with an enormous depth of flavor from the Cocalero botanicals. If you get your hands on some Cocalero, give this one a try!
Recipe
1oz Cocalero Negro
1oz vodka
1oz chilled espresso
3oz tonic
Shake ingredients minus tonic with ice until chilled. Strain into highball glass with clear ice (I used @truecubes). Top with tonic water. Garnish with expressed lemon oils and fresh mint. Cheers!!
