Daiqu-tini
Class switch alert! It’s been awhile since I’ve attempted to convert a classic cocktail to a different style of drink. It’s hard to mess with a classic like the daiquiri, but to me the essential essence of the drink is the freshness of the lime and the way it reacts around any given rum. Yes, there is sugar, but with the acidity of lime juice that serves more as a balancing measure.
Welcome to Port Pisco
[#ad] For our next #sponsored post showcasing the @catanpisco and @settlersofcatan collaboration, I have a stirred, almost martini-style drink. This one is inspired by the Port spaces in the board game where you can trade in resources— in particular the space where everything can be traded at a 3:1 ratio. You might even call this a firesale, where everything goes.
One With Tea
Hey all! I’m back from vacation and have some new content for you. Today we’re going to keep it fairly simple with a martini-style drink using a delicious flavored vodka kindly sent by @chakravodkas. With this build, I wanted to highlight the jasmine by tying in some tea-leaning flavors with the Italicus (bergamot-forward liqueur) and gin— I used @jaisalmergin, which has green tea among its aromatic botanicals.
I Dream of Greenie
Anyone in the mood for a mezcal martini? What if it’s herbaceous, a little funky, and just the right amount of savory? I assume you’ve already scrolled past if your answer is no, so keep reading. I was sent a lovely bottle of mezcal by @mezcalamaras, which isn’t as assertive (ie smoky) as some others— which allows it to be the feature spirit in this stirred format without completely overtaking the more subtle flavors.
What A Teas
Today I’m continuing my #sponsored content with @JaisalmerGin, this time with a new cocktail recipe. One of the more unique features of this gin (and one of my favorites) is the inclusion of Darjeeling green tea as one of the botanicals. Tea lends itself really well to spirits, given their depth of flavor and (as an avid lover of amaro) bitter element. As such, they’re great for infusing, and you can dial in the level of bitterness depending on how long you let the infusion go.
The Real Streets of Cabbagetown
I posted a drink called Cabbagetown (1/18/21) that was named for an area of Toronto, since the drink itself was a Toronto riff. Many people commenting on the drink were expecting actual cabbage in the drink, which made me really happy to know that people think I am bold (?crazy) enough to try such a thing. I mean, it would be on-brand given my love for food-inspired, often savory-leaning concoctions. Yeah, you see where this is going-- I had to do it.
Vida Americana
Blanco tequila can be so much more than a shot or a margarita. It took me some time to realize that, and don’t get me wrong— I love a good margarita and especially its infinite riffability. But if you like margaritas and/or tequila in general, keep reading.
Verbena Vesper
Lemon verbena is one of my favorite plants growing in my garden. If you’re not familiar with it, I seriously recommend seeking it out. The South American native shrub has such a lovely, bright, lemon-y fragrance that is similar to lemongrass or lemon balm. Our plant is growing like crazy this year so I needed to prune it back— leaving me with a lot of leaves to play with.
